My Village exists so neighbors can trust each other with their kids. That same standard applies to how we handle the information you share with us.
We collect the minimum we need to run your village. We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never share what happens inside your village with anyone outside it.
The full policy below is the legal version of that promise — written to comply with COPPA, CCPA, and applicable U.S. law.
This app is designed for use by parents and adult guardians. We collect information about children as part of facilitating childcare scheduling, and we take the protection of that information extremely seriously.
All accounts must be created and managed by adults aged 18 or older. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect all personal information in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and applicable U.S. law.
Introduction.
Welcome to My Village ("we," "our," or "us"). Our app enables parents and guardians in the same neighborhood to schedule childcare exchanges — hosting each other's children and coordinating time in a trusted community setting.
This Privacy Policy describes what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have regarding your information and your children's information. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
Who may use this app.
This app is intended solely for adults (18 years of age or older) who are parents or legal guardians. We do not permit children to create accounts or use the app directly.
By registering, you represent that you are at least 18 years old and, if applicable, a parent or legal guardian with authority to provide information about the children in your care.
What we collect.
Information you provide
When you register and use the app, we collect:
- Parent/Guardian name
- Your full name to identify your account and to other participating families.
- Contact information
- Your email address and phone number for account management and notifications.
- Home address & neighborhood
- Your general location to match you with nearby families and to confirm hosting locations.
- Children's information
- The first names, ages, and any care-relevant notes (e.g., allergies, special needs) that you choose to provide for the children in your care. Shared only with families you actively schedule with.
- Profile information
- Any optional details you add to your profile, such as a bio or household description.
Information collected automatically
When you use the app, we may automatically collect:
- Device information. Device type, operating system version, and app version for technical support and compatibility.
- Usage data. Features you use, scheduling activity, and session information to improve the app experience.
- Location data. With your permission, we may collect your precise or approximate location to help you find nearby families. You may disable location access in your device settings at any time.
- Log data. IP address, timestamps, and error logs for security and diagnostic purposes.
Payment information
My Village is free today, and neighbor-to-neighbor childcare will always be paid in tickets, not money. If we introduce optional paid features in the future (such as a captain plan or premium tools), we may collect:
- Billing details — your name, billing address, and email associated with the payment.
- Transaction records — what you bought, when, and the amount, kept for tax and accounting purposes.
Card numbers and bank account details are handled directly by our PCI-compliant payment processor (currently Stripe) and never stored on My Village servers. We'll update this policy and notify you before any paid feature launches.
What we don't collect
- Government-issued ID numbers or Social Security numbers.
- Biometric data of any kind.
- Full card numbers or bank account credentials — those go straight to our payment processor.
- Direct personal information from children — all information about children is provided by their parent or guardian.
Children's privacy (COPPA).
We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our app is designed for adults only, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13.
Information about children (such as first name, age, or care notes) is collected from their parent or guardian — never directly from the child. This information is:
- Used only to facilitate scheduling and coordination between families you choose to connect with.
- Never used for advertising, marketing, or profiling purposes.
- Never sold or shared with third parties except as described in "How we share."
If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information directly through our app without parental consent, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete that information promptly.
How we use information.
We use the information we collect to:
- Run your village. Create and manage your account, verify your identity, and facilitate scheduling between matched families.
- Connect the right households. Match you with nearby families based on your neighborhood, and display relevant information (such as host parent names and addresses) to families you confirm plans with.
- Keep you informed. Send scheduling confirmations, reminders, and important safety notifications.
- Improve the app. Improve functionality, reliability, and user experience.
- Keep the village safe. Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or safety concerns.
- Comply with the law. Meet applicable laws and legal obligations.
We do not use your information or your children's information for targeted advertising. Ever.
Location information.
With your permission, the app may access your device's location to help you find and connect with families in your neighborhood. Specifically:
- We use location data to suggest nearby families and to display approximate neighborhood matches.
- Your precise home address is only shared with families you have an active, confirmed scheduling arrangement with.
- You can withdraw location permission at any time through your device's settings. This will limit certain features but will not affect your ability to use the app generally.
Data retention.
We retain your personal information and account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see "Your privacy rights.").
Information about children is deleted promptly when you remove it from your profile, when your account is deleted, or upon your request. We do not retain children's information beyond what is necessary for active scheduling records.
Data security.
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure cloud storage, and access controls limiting who can view sensitive data.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.
Your privacy rights.
General rights (all users)
You have the right to:
- Access. Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and your children.
- Correction. Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion. Request that we delete your account and the personal information associated with it, including children's information.
- Restriction. Request that we limit how we process your information in certain circumstances.
- Portability. Request a machine-readable copy of your data where technically feasible.
California residents — CCPA rights
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to know. You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, the business purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared.
- Right to delete. You may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information. However, you may submit a "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" request at any time by contacting us at the address below.
- Right to non-discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
To exercise your California privacy rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond to verifiable consumer requests within 45 days.
When you leave a village, your tickets stay behind for the next family. Everything else — your contact info, your kids' details, your message history — is yours to take with you or have erased.
Third-party services.
Our app may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services (such as mapping tools). This Privacy Policy applies only to our app. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through or in connection with our app.
Changes to this policy.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (at the address associated with your account) and/or by displaying a prominent notice within the app at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
Your continued use of the app after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you should stop using the app and may request deletion of your account.
